I began playing about 5 years ago when I was in law school at the University of Wisconsin. Due to poor bankroll management skills I was basically a break-even player up until last year. My wife and I moved from Wisconsin to California last year when she started her residency and as I was waiting the 4 months for my Bar results to come in we agreed that I could play poker fulltime during that wait. Fortunately, I made a 6 figure score when I came in 3rd in the FTOPS main event last August and with that my 'shot' at playing fulltime has continued (with the nice safety net of being able to practice law if poker doesn't work out). I do not put in the volume that other pro players do and although I play some of the bigger buy-in tourneys, I continue to play many low/mid-level tourneys as I believe they have great value. I have won many of the $26 freezeouts on Fulltilt as well as the $10 rebuys on both Stars and Tilt (I have also won at all of the levels above that up to the $163 on Tilt). I hope to provide some insight into how to play these lower/mid-level buy-in tourneys as well as the mental aspects that I believe are crucial if you want to move up in stakes.
